Dec News

BUTTER MOUNTAIN GOLF CLUB
Dec 2024 News

Following December’s committee meeting I wish to send the members an update from the committee in relation to end of year activity. Firstly may we take this opportunity to wish all our members and everyone associated with the club a very happy and peaceful Christmas. We would also like to remember absent friends and indeed members with health issues who are no longer able to compete on the golf course.

Our job is to work on behalf of the members and to make our Butter Mountain Golf Club experience a very positive one.

Some Notices for upcoming events include.
3 Man end of year scramble on Dec 28th
3 man beginning of year scramble on January 4th
Please note golfers may avail of placing everywhere and indeed the save the fairway option

Some reflections on last year include
There was a great spread of prizes amongst many members
Very Successful days on both Captains & Presidents day
Internal Club match play competitions ran very smoothly
BMGC entered our largest volume of teams ever in inter club competition. Some fine scalps were had including the K club and congratulations to everybody who represented the club
Undoubtedly the most successful team were our Super Seniors who were pipped at the post and were tremendous representatives of the club.

Inter Club competitions 2025
The club are already committed to entering 4 teams this year including
The Barton Cup
Pierce Purcell Shield
The Leinster Fourball
The Super Seniors

Facility Improvements
We have all witnessed the various course improvements over the last two years and there are more plans for 2025
You can see the improvements to the new dining room in the club house which is nearing completion. Works have included, new flooring, dining room and reception all fully painted, new windows and doors installed, new lighting & new radiators. Golfers are asked Kindly not to wear their golf shoes in the new dining room. We are excited to have the room completed soon for everyone to enjoy in 2025.
The Driving net is going to be replaced and relocated to a new location in 2025
There are plans for a putting Green in 2025 behind the car park wall
The Gazebo currently situated on the 13th will be moved as requested up to the bench on the 16th tee box when weather permits

Membership 2025
The rates have been set this year with a flexible payment plan if required @
€700 for full Membership
€575 for 5 Day Membership
€460 for Under25
The course have requested that Membership Fees for 2025 are to be paid within the agreed timeframe please. Failure to pay the fees as agreed, can have a knock on effect and can disrupt players on accessing our Booking Platforms & selecting tee times.

The committee believe the above package represents great value and I have often considered what if every member knew 1 potential golfer who you could encourage to join? It would make a huge difference to our membership. Why not give it a go.

I hope we have whetted the appetite for next year and am hoping that all members will return in 2025.

In the meantime, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all the committee and we look forward to competing in 2025

Keeping you informed

David O’ Driscoll
Committee Member.

New Course Rating 2025

We have received notification of an updated course rating.

New from Jan 1st 2025 and specifically when we return to Full qualifying conditions (usually mid April) there will be a Black set of tees on the 4th hole, the only difference between Black & Blue is that extra 38yards blind shot off the new 4th tee, and this is reflected  slightly in the course rating.

Below is the new table of tees which means cards for handicap and in competition can be played off Black/Blue/Yellow or red tees for Men.

Competition play will for the most part be played off Blue Tees, play off a different tee colour will be notified in advance of the Competition days play via WhatsApp & on the Howdidido App.

Match Play 2024

Live Singles Draw     Live Scotch Foursomes

The MatchPlay Singles final was won by Eoin Boggans V Darren Redmond

In the Scotch Foursomes final Dave O'Driscoll & Noel Quinn beat Sean Egan & Billy Walsh

Scotch Foursomes:

  • Both players in a team tee off Blue Tees , Choose preferred ball & Play alternate shots until completion of hole.
  • All players in the match will individually calculate a Course Handicap (CH).
  • Each Team takes 60% of the lower CH and 40% of the higher CH and adds them together, this is the pairs playing handicap.
  • The full difference between the 2 teams handicaps will determine the number of shots given/received.
  • Please note the new indices on the back 9 holes ! !

*******************************************************************

Singles Match Play:

  • Play off Blue Tees: play off full Course Handicap on the day (laminated CH sheet is in Changing room and at reception). If player A has a 20 Course Handicap & Player B is an 18 CH, Player A would then get a shot on hole index 1 & Hole index 2. ( all other Holes would be off scratch).

Ticket Draw
 30.7.2024

Dear Member,

We began the ticket distribution on Captains day last week and we have left many tickets to be collected @reception where you can pick them up and sign the sheet. I outlined the reasons for the fund raiser in the recent Whatsapp and in short, we have to make this a success so we don’t have to revisit the membership with a 2nd fund raising activity. Thank you to those who have bought and paid for tickets already.

In terms of Payment you have the following options as agreed with our Treasurer and Captain

1.      Our preferred method is by cash as we have always done. Please use notes only as the bank charge us for coinage. The Master sheet @ reception will be marked as paid

2.      If you can’t do cash you can do a bank transfer to the BMG account referencing your name and tickets. The account details are IE41PBS99062000330881. The Master Sheet @reception will be updated on a weekly basis if you have paid by Bank Transfer

All ticket stubs to be left @ reception. The committee are obviously trying to reduce the amount of Administration involved to the above (Hence please use cash if at all possible) but equally we want to be totally transparent in relation to ticket activity and report back to the membership on the success of this fund raising activity accurately.

Yours Sincerely

Yellow Peril Competition advice

 Yellow Peril Competition Stableford:

Use Howdidido Playing Handicap (=PH on label) then minus any domestic cuts

There is a separate Stableford and Team Competition, if the yellow ball is lost, players still play out the round for the individual prize.

  • On each hole, two team members play their own white ball for the individual Singles Stableford Scorecard and one plays the "yellow Peril" ball for team Scorecard. If YP player gets 2pts they add that to their own singles scorecard and also on the Team Scorecard.
  •   Take "yellow" ball in rotation. Lowest handicap index on first hole: Middle handicap index on second hole: Highest handicap index on third hole. Keep to this order for the 18 holes.
  • If the Yellow ball is lost no more points can be added to Team Score.

A team that completes the full 18 shooting 34pts and returns the yellow ball to the Starters room would trump a Team that shot 35pts but lost their ball on e.g. the16th hole.

New Handicap Rules

From April 1st 2024 the WHS system is changing, please see the new handicap table below.

This now calculates your course handicap as Course Rating minus Par, this means on a course like ours where the rating at 68.8, is less than the par 71. This means a reduction in Handicaps.

On a course where the rating is e.g. 74 and the par is 72 you will receive more shots.

New members guide 2024

Rules for beginners - Golf Ireland

 World Golf Handicap Pocket guide

Weekly Club Competition's

When inputting a card at an away course it will go onto your record automatically (if it's an official competition). If it's just a casual round with another Golfireland member you ( & you choose to submit a round)  will need to sign-in on the Golfireland app pre round, then input that card asap after game.

Note: You must still be on-site at that club in order for it to work
  • All society cards should be returned on the app too in the same manner as above, if you are having problems with the app send on a photo of your card, but only when you've exhausted the above advice.

Step 1: Install the howdidido app, When you submit 3 cards a Handicap index will be allocated.

( In addition you can send a photo via email or WhatsApp to speed up the process).

Please put the 3 scorecards in an envelope marked "For Handicap" and leave at the course reception.

  • Cards submitted in the Winter season: a temporary domestic Handicap will be allocated.
  • Cards submitted in the Qualifying period April to end of October: an initial Golfireland handicap will be allocated, you will need 20 qualifying cards thru the season to have a fully developed Handicap (this will allow entry to interclub competitions in 2025).

After Handicap index allocation you will then have access to the HDID tee time booking system for Competitions.

Step 2: Install the Golf Ireland app, use this to track your Handicap index.

The pin number for registering is on the back of your Golf Ireland member card.

Step 3: install the BRS booking app for Tee time bookings outside of competition times
For issues relating to BRS contact Amanda at reception.

Step 4: Download the R&A Rules of golf app

            GOLF IS OPEN TO ALL

Step 5: (optional)  You may want to download a GPS Golf app.

To comply with the rules of Competition golf the GPS app can only give advice on Distance, not measure wind speed or direction etc. Try not to let such devices interfere with pace of play.

Example of a free App with the Course mapped on it is below
