New Course Rating 2025

We have received notification of an updated course rating.

New from Jan 1st 2025 and specifically when we return to Full qualifying conditions (usually mid April) there will be a Black set of tees on the 4th hole, the only difference between Black & Blue is that extra 38yards blind shot off the new 4th tee, and this is reflected  slightly in the course rating.

Below is the new table of tees which means cards for handicap and in competition can be played off Black/Blue/Yellow or red tees for Men.

Competition play will for the most part be played off Blue Tees, play off a different tee colour will be notified in advance of the Competition days play via WhatsApp & on the Howdidido App.

Competition Conditions

From 18/11/24

*Until Further notice*

Placing everywhere

    ** Bunkers out of Play.

Save Our Fairways option::: If your ball lands on the Fairway, Players have the option to move and place in the nearest side of rough, no nearer the hole. Placing everywhere, within 6 inches. (except Penalty areas)

    Accumulations of Loose Impediments:

Purpose. At certain times of the year piles of loose impediments such as leaves, seeds or acorns may make it difficult for a player to find or play their ball. A Committee can choose to treat such piles of loose impediments in the general area or in a bunker as ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1.

This Local Rule may not be used for penalty areas as relief is not available for abnormal course conditions in penalty areas.

The Local Rule should be limited to the hole(s) where problems are created by such loose impediments and should be withdrawn as soon as conditions allow.

    Model Local Rule F-14

"During play of the [holes 1 thru 18], any ground with temporary accumulations of [Leaves] in the general area or in a bunker is treated as ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1.

    Bunker Filled with Temporary Water

Purpose. If a bunker or multiple bunkers are filled with temporary water, free relief under Rule 16.1c may not be sufficient to allow for fair play as players may be limited to taking maximum available relief or relief outside the bunker for one penalty stroke. A Committee can choose to treat certain bunkers as ground under repair in the general area so that free relief is allowed outside the bunker.

The Committee should only use this Local Rule for specifically identified bunkers and is not authorized to make a Local Rule providing generally that all bunkers filled with temporary water are ground under repair. The rationale for this is that individual bunkers may change from being completely flooded to partially flooded during the round and it would be inappropriate for some players to get free relief from a bunker treated as ground under repair in the general area, whereas other players have to treat it as a bunker as it is not completely flooded at the time their ball is in it,

    Click for Yellow Peril Rules

    • The new Gazebos are immovable obstructions, free drop from stance or intended line of swing  (No line-of-sight relief).
    • If your ball is lost in Casual water (excluding penalty areas), take a free drop where you last crossed the margin of the water, keeping that point in line with the Flag, with no limit to how far back you drop.
    • A ball found within, or stance affected by, Casual water should be dropped to the nearest point of relief not nearer the hole.

Any new Competition/Conditions updates will be posted here thru the season

Live Singles Draw     Live Scotch Foursomes

The MatchPlay Singles final was won by Eoin Boggans V Darren Redmond

In the Scotch Foursomes final Dave O'Driscoll & Noel Quinn beat Sean Egan & Billy Walsh

    Scotch Foursomes:

    • Both players in a team tee off Blue Tees , Choose preferred ball & Play alternate shots until completion of hole.
    • All players in the match will individually calculate a Course Handicap (CH).
    • Each Team takes 60% of the lower CH and 40% of the higher CH and adds them together, this is the pairs playing handicap.
    • The full difference between the 2 teams handicaps will determine the number of shots given/received.
    • Please note the new indices on the back 9 holes ! !

    *******************************************************************

    Singles Match Play:

    • Play off Blue Tees: play off full Course Handicap on the day (laminated CH sheet is in Changing room and at reception). If player A has a 20 Course Handicap & Player B is an 18 CH, Player A would then get a shot on hole index 1 & Hole index 2. ( all other Holes would be off scratch).

    Ticket Draw
     30.7.2024

    Dear Member,

We began the ticket distribution on Captains day last week and we have left many tickets to be collected @reception where you can pick them up and sign the sheet. I outlined the reasons for the fund raiser in the recent Whatsapp and in short, we have to make this a success so we don’t have to revisit the membership with a 2nd fund raising activity. Thank you to those who have bought and paid for tickets already.

In terms of Payment you have the following options as agreed with our Treasurer and Captain

    1.      Our preferred method is by cash as we have always done. Please use notes only as the bank charge us for coinage. The Master sheet @ reception will be marked as paid

    2.      If you can’t do cash you can do a bank transfer to the BMG account referencing your name and tickets. The account details are IE41PBS99062000330881. The Master Sheet @reception will be updated on a weekly basis if you have paid by Bank Transfer

All ticket stubs to be left @ reception. The committee are obviously trying to reduce the amount of Administration involved to the above (Hence please use cash if at all possible) but equally we want to be totally transparent in relation to ticket activity and report back to the membership on the success of this fund raising activity accurately.

     www.bmgc.ie

    Yours Sincerely

     David O’ Driscoll

    Yellow Peril Competition advice

     Yellow Peril Competition Stableford:

Use Howdidido Playing Handicap (=PH on label) then minus any domestic cuts

There is a separate Stableford and Team Competition, if the yellow ball is lost, players still play out the round for the individual prize.

    • On each hole, two team members play their own white ball for the individual Singles Stableford Scorecard and one plays the "yellow Peril" ball for team Scorecard. If YP player gets 2pts they add that to their own singles scorecard and also on the Team Scorecard.
    •   Take "yellow" ball in rotation. Lowest handicap index on first hole: Middle handicap index on second hole: Highest handicap index on third hole. Keep to this order for the 18 holes.
    • If the Yellow ball is lost no more points can be added to Team Score.

A team that completes the full 18 shooting 34pts and returns the yellow ball to the Starters room would trump a Team that shot 35pts but lost their ball on e.g. the16th hole.

    11/4/2024

Following April’s recent committee meeting I wish to send members an update from the committee in relation to forthcoming events, Inter club matchplay competitions, internal match play competitions, Facility improvements etc. Our job is to work on behalf of the members and to make your Butter Mountain Golf Club experience a very positive one. The RELENTLESS rain is playing havoc with the course preparations and our schedules so please bear with us as we have some revised dates that differ from the original fixture list. All golf clubs are experiencing the same difficulties.

Saturday May 4th is the REVISED date for the May MEDAL due to both weather and inter club fixture demands.

    New Handicap Rules

From April 1st 2024 the WHS system is changing, please see the new handicap table below.

This now calculates your course handicap as Course Rating minus Par, this means on a course like ours where the rating at 68.8, is less than the par 71. This means a reduction in Handicaps.

On a course where the rating is e.g. 74 and the par is 72 you will receive more shots.
