Competition Course Conditions

When inputting a card at an away course it will go onto your record automatically (if it's an official competition, the away clubs software will look after this). If it's just a casual round with another Golfireland member ( & you choose to submit a round) You will need to sign-in on the Golfireland app pre round, then input that card asap after game.

Don't sign in to a competition and the golfireland app on the same day, as it messes up the processs.

Note: You must still be on-site at that club in order for it to work
  • All society cards should be returned on the app too, in the same manner as above, if you are having problems with the app send on a photo of your card, but only when you've exhausted the above advice.

Step 1: Install the howdidido app, When you submit 3 cards (on a qualifying course) a Handicap index will be allocated and you can access the members designated booking area within HDID . Qualifying conditions normally run from April to late October at BMGC.

The 3 cards for initial handicap can be submitted from any course in Ireland operating with Golf Ireland Qualifying conditions, Note: some links courses have qualifying conditions all year round.

: In addition please send a photo of card via email or WhatsApp to speed up the process.

Please put the 3 scorecards in an envelope marked "For Handicap" and leave at the course reception.

  • Cards submitted in the non Qualifying Winter season: a temporary domestic Handicap will be allocated.
  • Cards submitted in the Qualifying period April to end of October: an initial Golfireland handicap will be allocated, you will need 20 qualifying cards thru the season to have a fully developed Handicap (this will allow entry to interclub competitions in 2027).

After Handicap index allocation you will then have access to the HDID tee time booking system for Competitions.

Step 2: Install the Golf Ireland app, use this to track your Handicap index.

The pin number for registering is on the back of your Golf Ireland member card.

Step 3: install the BRS booking app for Tee time bookings outside of competition times
For issues relating to BRS contact Annette at reception.

Step 4: Download the R&A Rules of golf app

            GOLF IS OPEN TO ALL

Step 5: (optional)  You may want to download a GPS Golf app.

To comply with the rules of Competition golf the GPS app can only give advice on Distance, not measure wind speed or direction etc. Try not to let such devices interfere with pace of play.

Example of a free App with all Courses mapped on it is below

If you are having any issues, you can contact me or any committee member via email or Whatsapp anytime. (preferably during normal working hours)

Soft ground / Abnormal ground conditions, from now until New season start in April:

If your lost ball is embedded into the ground of F/ways or rough anywhere on the course ( e.g. the very soft f/way & rough on Hole 12) you can take a free drop to the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole  keeping the flag in line to where you drop.

This local rule cannot be used in areas of unmaintained rough, or around trees/spinneys, nor in penalty areas.

Accumulations of Loose Impediments:

Purpose. At certain times of the year piles of loose impediments such as leaves, seeds or acorns may make it difficult for a player to find or play their ball. The Committee  has choosen to treat such piles of loose impediments in the general area or in a bunker as ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1.

This Local Rule may not be used for penalty areas as relief is not available for abnormal course conditions in penalty areas.

Model Local Rule F-14

"During play of the [holes 1 thru 18], any ground with temporary accumulations of [Leaves] in the general area or in a bunker is treated as ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1.

**********

Rules for Champagne Scramble:

  • Use Playing Handicap as per Howdidido label or App.(minus off any domestic Cuts from PH)
  • Players drive off. Team chooses which drive to play and marks it (all players can place). All team members play from this spot/ within 6 inches and then finish out the hole with their own ball, in the normal Stableford manner.
  • 3 drives MUST be used from each player. Drives must be indicated on the scorecard by putting a circle around the player's score.

The best 2 scores are recorded (Stableford). The same applies to all other holes except the par 3’s.

On par 3’s: all players play their own ball from tee to green and then all 3 scores (stableford) are counted.

Accumulations of Loose Impediments:

Purpose. At certain times of the year piles of loose impediments such as leaves, seeds or acorns may make it difficult for a player to find or play their ball. A Committee can choose to treat such piles of loose impediments in the general area or in a bunker as ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1.

This Local Rule may not be used for penalty areas as relief is not available for abnormal course conditions in penalty areas.

The Local Rule should be limited to the hole(s) where problems are created by such loose impediments and should be withdrawn as soon as conditions allow.

Model Local Rule F-14

"During play of the [holes 1 thru 18], any ground with temporary accumulations of [Leaves] in the general area or in a bunker is treated as ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1.

Bunker Filled with Temporary Water

Purpose. If a bunker or multiple bunkers are filled with temporary water, free relief under Rule 16.1c may not be sufficient to allow for fair play as players may be limited to taking maximum available relief or relief outside the bunker for one penalty stroke. A Committee can choose to treat certain bunkers as ground under repair in the general area so that free relief is allowed outside the bunker.

The Committee should only use this Local Rule for specifically identified bunkers and is not authorized to make a Local Rule providing generally that all bunkers filled with temporary water are ground under repair. The rationale for this is that individual bunkers may change from being completely flooded to partially flooded during the round and it would be inappropriate for some players to get free relief from a bunker treated as ground under repair in the general area, whereas other players have to treat it as a bunker as it is not completely flooded at the time their ball is in it,

  • The new Gazebos are immovable obstructions, free drop from stance or intended line of swing  (No line-of-sight relief).
  • If your ball is lost in Casual water (excluding penalty areas), take a free drop where you last crossed the margin of the water, keeping that point in line with the Flag, with no limit to how far back you drop.
  • A ball found within, or stance affected by, Casual water should be dropped to the nearest point of relief not nearer the hole.

Please leave Rakes back inside Bunkers.

  • New Ponds are now staked, use relevant penalty area Rule. Note the scale of mixed Penalty area on 14th/7th in photo below.

3Ball / Scramble Stroke play, 1/6 combined Playing H/cap

  •  Playing Handicap( = PH on Label) Then minus any domestic cuts from the PH, add up the 3  amended H/Caps and divide by 6.
  • All players Tee off ,select preferred ball, all play their own ball from that position.
  • 5 Drives/tee shots from each team player must be used
  • For the purposes of this competition all players Place everywhere within 6 inches (except penalty areas).
  • Teams will be split into 2 divisions (as equal as possible)  If there is enough prizes for 3 teams it will be 1st overall then 2 X divisional prizes. 4 team prizes = 2 X divisions.

  • If a team has only 2 players you will not be in the scramble, so sign in and Submit a Singles Scorecard as normal. (for a separate prize).

The good news is: and unique to our club, the % paid out is very high from Competition fees.

The committee also tries to spread out the amount of prizes, as opposed to giving out one large prize.

  •  €30  Golf Ireland affiliation
  •  €25  insurance
  • €8  Printing of GolfIreland Smartcard
