Winter League Results Final
You could not write the script for the Winter league this year, with just a 1 point margin deciding the overall winners on the Final weekend.
After 17 weeks, a mixed bag of weather conditions and only 1 weekend of non play.
The Eagles (58pts) - Brian Cruise/Robbie Meany/Eamonn Carroll/Brian Carthy & Neville Morgan narrowly defeated The Panthers (56pts) - Jim Graham/John Hopkins/Ger Flood/Richard Whealans &Terry Kirwan by 108 to 107 points in the double header decider.
Gerry Brady had the best score of 47.6, Bernard O'Callaghan was the most consistent and finally as Leo stated during the lively prize presentations the "not so average" Dave Jones won the best average with a score of 39.8
Final Standings
***************
18/3/2016 Panthers still holding on to the pole position. Colts have finally stopped propping up the table – Seahawks now have that privilege.

Winter League Jan Update
We have just completed the first half of the fixture list and every team has played each other once.
Panthers (Jimmy Graham and Co) continue to lead the table. But their amazing run of 7 wins out of 7 came to an end last week when their nearest rivals Eagles (Brian Cruise & Co) beat them in the top of the table clash!
Patriots (James Nolan & Co) and Saints (Kevin Behan & Co) have started a late charge, winning their last two matches.
This week the Saints take on league leaders Panthers and the Patriots take on Eagles. Will the Panthers stumble? Can the Saints and Patriots continue their recent form? The Bears (Eoin Boggins & Co) take on the Broncos (Noel Murphy & Co), and win for the Bears could move them into second place.
With nine matches to be settled over the next 8 weeks it is still a wide open competition.

Course Update Fri 15 Jan
Course will be open for play this weekend Sat 16th / Sun 17th on Temp greens
The competition will be a 14hole Stableford skipping the wettest parts of the course around the 13th,17th & 18th holes. Full details of course Route and indexing posted on Completion Wall in starters room. and here
Course Report:
January looks set to be a difficult month for Golf at DMGC, with December rainfall amounts the highest for over 100 years. The cattle hoof damage on the 17th hole has not recovered yet and combined with the heavy saturation it may be out of play for week or two. Another example is on the 13th, I wanted to move the flag onto the Temporary green before Christmas, but the Temp 13th green and surrounds were wetter than the main green.
Hopefully conditions will improve for next weeks competitions.

2016 insurance increase
We have been informed that our current AIG Golfers insurance will rise to €27 this year.
Brian McNamara has contacted AON insurance and it is proposed that we switch to their package @ €25, which will cover us from April 2016 to April 2017.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused as this increase was not reflected in the renewal forms sent out before Christmas. The new breakdown is :
Full €452 + VAT@45€ = €497
Committee & Gui fees@€35 +AON insurance@€25 = €60
Total: €557
The committee is requesting members who have not already renewed their annual subscription, to add the €5 increase to the clubs portion of the subscription which now rises from €55 to €60. For those who have already paid their subscription for the year the committee requests that you place the €5 in a sealed envelope marked INSURANCE PREMIUM INCREASE with your name and GUI number and give it to any committee member or leave it with Fiona or Deborah at the office.

Handicap changes 2016
CHANGES TO CONGU UNIFIED HANDICAPPING SYSTEM
Changes will take effect on 1 January 2016, with an implementation date for clubs of 1 March 2016.
Changes will take effect on 1 January 2016, with an implementation date for clubs of 1 March 2016.
The new CONGU manual is in the process of being published and is the
culmination of a four-year review cycle with the aim of assisting club
members to have handicaps which truly reflect their playing ability.
Among the most significant changes in the 2016 edition of the manual are the following:
•
Dates – The handicap year will now follow the calendar year,1 January
to 31 December, and a player’s handicap will be based on scores returned
within that period
•
Four Ball Better Ball Handicap Allowance: In both stroke play and match
play the back marker now concedes strokes to the other 3 players based
on 90% of the difference between the
full handicaps rather than 75% (3/4) as at present
•
Reinstatement of Handicap Status: The reinstatement of a competition
status handicap requires a player to submit 3 qualifying scores (which
could be 18 hole competitions,9 hole competitions
or Supplementary Scores both home and/or away)
•
Continuous Handicap Review: To assist with this process there will now
be a computer generated report which highlights those players
with 7 consecutive 0.1 increases. Handicap Committees are now
recommended to review the performance of such players and to give due
consideration to applying a handicap increase where applicable or
required.
• Exact Handicaps: In Ireland lowest exact handicap is now restricted to 1.0 stroke increase in a calendar year.
Various other changes have been made and a pre-publication version of the revised manual can be viewed at
www.congu.com
Jim
McArthur, CONGU Board Chairman, said: “The CONGU Unified Handicapping
System does not stand still and, as a result, we again have a number of
further refinements to the system reflecting
both experience and new evidence.
